Competing Interest and Policies
The final conference in this series will be focused on policy, land-development planning, and community actions that have supported peri-urban farming. Conference Session 5’s objective is to bridge what has been learned about the peri-urban community with policy, community, and planning efforts. Classic and innovative models of farmer associations, commissions, and other collective strategies for supporting sustenance and growth of the peri-urban economy at the policy level will be examined. Guest speakers and discussions will bring insight to strategies for improving cross-community relationship and will illustrate the value of agriculture economies at the individual farm level, agriculture community level, and local food system economy level. We will spend the session highlighting success stories to provide hope for moving forward and a solid community connection within and outside of the Peri-Urban Agriculture Network for support.
